Our Erasmus+ week in Salbris
Erasmus+ is the funding agency that gave us money for our French trip. Erasmus+ supports mobilities for students, staff and learners across Europe. We applied for a grant through Léargas which is the National Agency for Ireland.
We spent a week in March in Collège Saint Georges in Salbris. Salbris is a small town in the Loir-et-Cher department. My experience there was very positive. We attended classes with our French penpals. We attended English, PE, Spanish, Maths, Science classes, to name just a few.
I spent my break times in the school playing basketball with some of the students, even students who were not involved in the exchange. It was challenging as I had to listen closely as well as try to play the game. I also got along very well with my penpal Hedi and all the other students involved in the Erasmus+ programme.

When we first arrived in France a few of us were nervous that we had to spend a week in another person’s house. As the days went on we all got more comfortable and by the time Friday came none of us wanted to go home.
We spent the week attending classes with our penpals and learning about the differences and similarities between their school and ours. We did lots of activities that helped us discover the differences and similarities between French and Irish foods, traditions, pastimes, towns. We had the opportunity to go karting at Sologne Karting and we also visited the Château de Chambord. It was a great experience!
