Purchase
All East Glendalough School uniform will be available for sale in the school on Thurs 12th June (7-9pm), Fri 15th August (2-4pm) and Fri 22nd August (5-7pm) from Kaideen Knitwear Mobile Shop.
Some general items may be purchased at the shop of your choice but must match the uniform identically.
Outside of the times mentioned above, it will not be possible to purchase items of uniform in school (except for ties and green jumpers) - parents will contact the supplier directly.

Wearing the uniform
Complete school uniform must be worn in school, on the way to and from school, and at official school functions. A spare set of uniform may be necessary to facilitate this, but losing items of clothing will not be considered a good enough excuse for failing to arrive properly dressed.

All items of clothing should be clearly named.

Failure to wear the correct uniform may result in a student being asked to stay out of school or receiving some other sanction. Parents are requested to ensure that their son(s)/daughter(s) come to school in complete uniform.
Extreme hairstyles, excessive jewellery or make-up and hair-colouring (other than a very slight enhancement of the natural colour) will not be permitted.
The decision of the Principal or Deputy-Principal in the interpretation of these rules will be final.

Some notes on Uniform and Appropriate Dress

Parents will appreciate that we want to maintain the highest standards in East Glendalough School. If things become sloppy in this regard, standards will drift in other areas as well. Please take note of the following points.

Essentials
Pupils MUST always have a school tie and jumper as well as the appropriate other clothing.
You are strongly advised to purchase a spare set of the uniform. Losing property is not a good enough excuse for turning up to school in the wrong clothing. If shoes, trousers, etc are temporarily lost or in the wash, a spare set should be worn. If pupils don't have a spare set, they should borrow a spare set. It's up to them to turn up to school properly dressed.

Lost Property
Parents/Guardians are STRONGLY advised to name their children's clothing.
This year saw a large number of jumpers turning up in Lost Property unnamed. Parents were then being hit for the very expensive cost of purchasing new jumpers.
(Any spare jumpers will be sold off cheaply in the school when uniform is being given out before next term.)
Next year we will be enforcing the wearing of jumpers on trips and in school. Pupils need to take more care of their jumpers and to recover them from Lost Property if they misplace them. Naming uniform helps.

Eyebrow studs or other body piercing
Even when covered with a patch these are strictly forbidden and pupils will be sent home.

Black school shoes
Black school shoes are mandatory. Pupils arriving in sports shoes are likely to be sent home.

Jewellery
Excessive jewellery is prohibited. One stud or sleeper may be worn in each ear.

Travel
Pupils are expected to travel to and from school in full school uniform. The only exception to this is that students who have Games in the afternoon may go home in sports clothes.

Ties
Rather than pupils getting into trouble for forgetting their tie, the school operates a system where ties are loaned out to pupils. However, this system was abused last year, with some pupils borrowing ties far too often and others failing to return the borrowed tie.
Only very rarely should any pupil need to borrow a tie. A pupil will be charged €2 for borrowing a tie, and if the tie is not returned within 48 hours the parents will be sent an invoice for its full cost.

Hairstyles
The school tries not to make an issue out of hairstyles, but will refuse admission to anyone wearing a particularly excessive or unnatural hairstyle.
