Friends of East Glendalough

In 2009, The Friends of East Glendalough was established to provide parents of past-pupils with a means to support East Glendalough School and stay in touch with its wider community. A very positive response has been received to its formation and the community of past-parents has already grown to a sizeable number, so that 'the Friends' are now actively supporting specific projects and is able to inject funds into areas that the traditional funding for the school cannot reach.

As all past-parents will well understand, there is an ongoing need for improvement of facilities in the school, which - in recent years - has included extended resource areas, a new Technical Graphics room, a refurbished library, the investment in an expanded curriculum that includes Music, Applied Maths, R.E., and German at Leaving Certificate level and, currently, improved sports facilities with the building of an Astroturf pitch. In the current economic climate, the prioritisation of projects has become essential to ensure survival of the core educational services in the school. As a result, the Friends of East Glendalough will look to assist in non-core areas and by becoming a member you will be helping to support these aims.

The Friends is administered by a Committee, elected annually at an AGM of all members. As a Friend you will receive a copy of the School Yearbook and regular updates of the school's Liaison magazine through email (or by download from this site). We would also like to arrange several social functions, subject to interest from the members. We are all aware of the current financial restraints on everyone and therefore we intend to raise money only through the membership fee rather than on-going fundraising activities.

How to become a member of the Friends of EGS
The membership structures are as follows:

Annual Membership: €50 / year

For those parents who may wish to donate more, we would encourage you to consider that as a registered charity we will be eligible for tax rebates on annual donations over €250.

We hope you will join us in raising essential funding, especially at a time when severe cut-backs have been imposed by the Department of Education and Science. Though we also see it as important to provide feedback on the progress of projects we are sponsoring in the school. So as a member, of 'The Friends of East Glendalough' you will be supporting a school community in which hundreds of children have thrived through academic, artistic and sporting opportunities, and you will be involved in on-going efforts to further improve education for future generations.
