Senior Captain’s Report
This season for our senior girls hockey team has been anything but easy. We came up against a number of very skilled teams, some proving to be more of a challenge than others. We were first faced with the challenge of playing against Mucross in which we were narrowly beaten 6-4.The team put up a great fight and worked hard right till the end. Unfortunately it came down to physical endurance and we just couldn’t compete. We went on to play another two league matches, both of which we were unlucky to lose 1-0, one against Rockford 1 and the other against Our Ladies 3.
Dr Nelson was beginning to get worried so increased training, included a lot more fitness and sent us out to our final league match against Teresians 2. We set out in full swing (literally) and played our hearts out (for many of us it would be our last match ever for EGS). It was nil all for the entire match and as it got closer to the end things started to look up. Luck cane our way, and in the final minutes Aisling Rowe put away the first and final goal of the match. It was certainly a brilliant end to our less brilliant season. Thanks go out to Dr Nelson and Ms Seymour who worked very hard with all our teams this year. I have no doubt that with the new Astroturf pitch on the way that they will bring our teams great places.
I wish them the beat of luck in the future.
