EGS Careers Open Evening a huge success!
The Careers Exhibition Evening, held on Thursday 7th October, was the brainchild and project of Mrs
O’Callaghan, and everyone present agreed that it was the most amazing success. Fourteen universities and colleges exhibited in the main hall, while around the school every classroom was occupied with speakers on a range of career talks that included Business, Arts degrees, Law, Architecture, Social Care, Psychology, Engineering, Careers in IT, Food Technology, Science degrees, Medicine, Journalism, etc. The talks were repeated three times over the course of the evening, so people could investigate a range of options.
Many people commented there was a wonderfully positive vibe on the night. It was particularly good to
welcome back so many past pupils, who were on hand to add a personal experience to former schoolmates.
These included Tara Jackson (Architecture graduate), Dylan Finnerty (Final Year Medicine), Megan Rice
(Final Year Science) and Niall Hardy (2nd Year Medicine) pictured with Ms Coonan (right) and Chris
Fennell, Amy Elkinson (also Science students) who were chatting to Megan Rice, Mr Cox and Head Girl,
Grace O’Regan when pictured. Will Goodbody (RTE) and Lorna Whelan (Nursing) were also giving talks.
The event raised over €2,000 for the Linda’s Hockey Pitch Fund, and huge congratulations are due to Mrs
O’Callaghan whose organisational detail and heroic hard work ensured it was such a successful occasion.
