U19 Badminton

I only began badminton in 5 year, but from the moment I held a racquet I was taken by the sport.
Badminton hit off to a good start this year with a higher interest rate from the students than usual. We began exceptionally well with a win for both our A and B teams in the Wicklow schools' league. From these wins, we progressed to the Leinster stage but what followed was a disappointing loss. This sent us out of the league and the chance of winning this year.

But it has not been a complete loss in terms of the sport. Badminton has never been a large part in East Glendalough School but resulting from the interest levels this year there is certainly a bright future opening for it. I would like to thank Mr. McGettigan for encouraging an interest in the sport and providing the P.E. hall to practice in whenever we requested.

U19 Girls Badminton

The Shoreline Leisure Centre, Greystones saw the first badminton tournament for East Glendalough School. The team consisted of Aimee Roberts, Sally Sutton, Sophie Hind, Kayleigh Crammond and Tonia Jackson. Although rookies amongst our competitors; Loreto, Bray and Domincan College, Wicklow, we managed to put up a good fight and surprised ourselves when qualifying for the next round.
As a result, we got the opportunity to go on another road trip – this time to Balldoyle Arena, Dublin on the 25 of January. We were all very excited and proud to represent our school at the next stage of the competition. We had a tough start to the day, narrowly losing our single matches. Unfortunately we were outplayed by our opposition; however, this did not dampen our spirits as we tried our best and enjoyed our day.
This was the first badminton tournament in which the school has competed and I hope it’s the start for many more! I wish the team ever success in the future!

Under 16 Badminton

This year I participated in badminton at the school. I was in the under 16's age group. At the beginning of the year trials were held and I managed to get onto the team. Mr.McGettigan was the teacher who organised this and I am very greatful to him for this. He entered our team in a blitz that was coming up. We had several training sessions and we trained at lunch too. Although our age group was not extremely successful at the blitz we did win a couple of games and it was very enjoyable.
