School Guide
Overview
East Glendalough School is a comprehensive co-educational day school, offering a broad Christian education through a wide curriculum of subjects approved by the Department of Education, together with sports and extra-curricular activities.
It was established in 1987 to serve the Protestant community of an area approximating to the eastern half of the diocese of Glendalough. The aim of the school is to encourage each pupil to develop to his or her full potential, to mature as an individual and to become a constructive and caring member of society. With a maximum number of 360 pupils, the school is small enough to allow for the personal and individual attention which allows pupils to develop in a secure and caring environment, while it is large enough to offer a very wide range of academic, sporting and extra-curricular activities.
Catchment Area
The catchment area of the school is extensive - and that's how the school got it's name. It serves the southern part of the diocese of Dublin & Glendalough - i.e. pretty much all of Wicklow.
The official boundary line of the catchment area starts just south of Kilmacanogue and runs as far west as Kippure in the Dublin mountains. It then runs southward as far as the summit of Lugnaquilla, before turning towards Aughrim, then to Holyfort and across to the sea just north of Gorey.
As you can imagine that's a huge area and our students are catching buses to school from very early in the morning (hence the breakfast club to give them a little sustenance when they get here!). This gives the school a unique mix of students from the town and students from the countryside, students who have grown up by the sea and those who know the mountains well. The mix works well and the different backgrounds everyone brings serve only to make us a stronger team.
